Lorem ipsum is placeholder copy used in design, publishing, and software when the real content is not ready yet. Designers and developers use it to check layout, typography, line length, rhythm, and how a page feels to read without being distracted by meaningful words.

The text is adapted from De finibus bonorum et malorum, a 1st-century BC philosophical work by Cicero. A scrambled Latin excerpt became the printing and typesetting industry’s default dummy text, and it spread with desktop publishing tools in the 1980s. The famous opening, Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…, is so recognizable that it signals “this is temporary content” to almost everyone who works on the web.
